You may be reading this and wondering, “What the heck does salutogenesis mean and why is my chiropractor talking about it?” But hear me out. The term salutogenesis describes an approach focusing on factors that support human health and well-being, rather than on factors that cause disease (pathogenesis). Salutogenesis, “the origin of health”, is a stress resource orientated concept, which focuses on innate resources, maintains and improves the movement towards health. This is the opposite of the pathogenic concept where the focus is on the prevention and cures.
Chiropractic care is a unique salutogenic approach to health care that has been shown to improve overall well-being and to enhance physiological function and adaptability. We do this through specific analysis and scans and then properly followed care planning and adjustments. Life is hard and stress, illness, and struggles AKA stressors will come at us at some point in life but by adopting a salutogenesis lifestyle through chiropractic and other proactive practices we can make sure we are ready for these life stresses to adapt and respond appropriately and live out life to its fullest.
